Can I dye or chemically straighten my hair even though I'm breastfeeding/ Is it safe for my baby?

she is 1 month old. Some ppl tell me its ok and others say its not and that the chemicals are excreted through the breastmilk and would be bad for her. what do u think? what is your experience with this?

My hairdresser says it is fine, I did use less harsh chemicals and realistically there is no proof that the dye is going into your blood stream in a quantity that could be passed through to baby via your milk. . .my mid wife even told me it was perfectly safe to dye my hair during pregnancy. Just make sure to have a well ventilated area which is true for a healthy life style pregnant, breast feeding or not .

According to the Breastfeeding Answer Book, published by La Leche League International, no evidence exists that the nursing mother's use of hair-care products, such as hair dyes and permanents, has any effect on her breastfeeding baby. When a mother uses hair-care products, some of the chemicals will be absorbed through her skin. If her scalp is healthy and intact, less will be absorbed than if the skin on her scalp is scratched or abraded.
