That's the first step. The Andrews School, M-Tec and Career Step all do a good job with their online courses and have earned the respect of a variety of employers. Especially if you want to transcribe from home, that's vital.

Beyond that, I did fairly well as a transcriptionist for 3 years, and my older sister supported her family as a transcriptionist. Some of this depends on the cost of living in your area since money goes farther in some places than in others.

You won't find a legitimate, at home employer for medical transcription who will be willing to train you from scratch. You absolutely need to get training on your own first. There are companies that claim to train people up, but they're just selling their software and will never, ever pay you for any work you do for them, even if you get good at it, and legitimate employers won't accept work experience from the scams as experience toward their jobs.

The short answer is yes. I currently manage a UK company for Transcription Services in London.
