The nurse told me I can, but what if is complications and I have to go to a c- section than what? I have to go tomorrow at 7:00 am.

I like to eat my breakfast every morning as soon as I wake up, if not I will feel dizzy, and my belly will hurt.

  1. You should it.. if you have a c-section you are usually always awake during the procedure...they numb you with an epideral...

  2. Eat, you will need the strength!

Even if you need a C-Section, they will most likely give you a local anesthetic via an epidural, so if you threw up or anything... you would know.  Even if they had to knock you out, there's hardly any risk of inhaling your vomit while you're passed out.

I recommend Henci Goer's studies on the subject in The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth - she has numerous studies about how it is safe to eat and drink in labor, regardless of risk of c-section.

  3. yes eat a good breakfast. i was induced and they gave me a big lunch at the hospital just before they put me on the medication. it is usually hours b4 anything really happens when being induced so u will go a long time b4 eating again.

i was induced at 11am and ended up having a caesar at 4am next morning and i was fine

  4. your not supposed to but i did and i didnt throw up or anything, but they give you ice in the delivery room  and thats it.

  5. They will put you on IVs, that will kind of make you feel full.  I would not eat anything....if you end up having a csection, they are cutting open your abdomen, and it is a major surgery.  Just pray for a short labor time.  You do not want to risk it.  They will give you ice chips, and I broght jolly rancher suckers to suck on, just to give me flavor in my mouth.  Good Luck!

  6. when i got induced, i was told to not eat anything after midnight, and the only thing i could drink was water. really, i didn't feel hungry when i woke up. i was too excited! during labor, i was totally fine. i had plenty of strength to pop her out, even after 14 hours of labor. they gave me a glucose tap to help keep up energy, and i was given ice chips all day to stay hydrated.

you may feel hungry at first but one of two things would happen once labor begins.  you'll either get an epidural - so you wouldn't feel your stomach hurt or growl. or if you don't have any medication, you'll be so distracted from the contractions, you won't realize you're hungry.

  7. I ate the morning i was being induced about an hour before hand.  I would suggest it because after they start the pitocin you will be on a liquid diet.

  8. Yes you can eat before getting induced. My doctor told me to eat a medium sized meal since I would not be able to eat again for a long time. They say you can eat breakfast because by the time they induce you and find out anything about a c-section the food in your belly will be gone. Just dont eat to much because they say the medicine they give you for induction could make you sick to your stomach. Just get full but not too full and I would suggest eating no later than 5 am since you have to go at 7am and trust me you will have to time to be dizzy lol your mind will be else where ;)

  9. You should eat..you wont get anything else other than ice chips once you get into the hospital, you will be starving otherwise...so eat, otherwise you wont have strength to push that baby out.

Don't worry about "what-if's"...think of all those emergency c' sections, those mom's must have eaten, so if that were to happen, then the hospital  is well equipped...stop worrying..

You will do great - and good luck!! Congratulations.

  10. I wasn't allowed to eat the morning I was induced.  They stopped all food/beverages at midnight. I was glad because the epidural made me a little sick. It only happened twice but I hadn't eaten previously and it would've have been a lot worse if I had.

  11. I was induced twice and was told NOT to eat anything after midnight the night before just in case of an emergency.  They gave me ice chips.  I was so nervous I did not even get hungry.

    Good luck!!!!
