Question:

Can I effectively marinade meat in a plastic bag?

So I love making beef jerky, but the problem is it takes a long time. Most of that time is taken up by laying the meat out carefully in a big glass tray to let it marinade.

What I do is put some marinade down, then place a layer of meat. I repeat this until I run out of meat (stacking the layers). But wouldn't it work just as well, if not better, if I simply threw all the meat and the marinade in one large ziplock bag? Or would the marinade somehow miss certain areas of the meat like that? Keep in mind I marinade it for 24 hours.

  1. Of course you can, and put in some extra heat and garlic!

Make sure all the air is out of the bag to marinate top and bottom and you won't even have to turn it!

  2. When you put the meat inside the plastic bag the flavors will bend perfectly. Marinate in a sealable plastic bag if you can. You can turn these over often, ensuring that all surfaces get coated in the marinade.

  3. I would put it in the bag also but I would also turn it over every few hours or when I thought of it in that 24 hour period.

  4. A plastic baggie works great. It makes a better marinating vessel as every thing gets covered equally. Make sure to squeeze out all the air from the bag. Also turn the bag at least once. And put the bag of marinating meat in a bowl or pan to make sure that if it does leak it doesn't get everywhere.

  5. i use plastic bags all the time to marinade my meat it is the best way cause all the meat is in the marinade so it covers evenly its the best way

  6. yes! my mom does this everytime we have meat. It tastes great cuz all of the flavors are stuck in the bag and the meat absorbs them all. Keeping it in for 24 hours+ is even better! It really helps bring the flavors out
