Question:

Can I emancipate myself with parental permission?

Right now, although I live with my parents I pay for my own gas, food, leisure through a job I work about 25 hours a week.

My parents have made it abundantly clear that they are not contributing to my college education at all. Being emancipated would lessen the debt I would have to take on. I am 18. is it possible to get emancipated in my situation. Although I live with my parents, I pay every other expense.

  1. no, you have no way around this one. At your age, you will need to provide your parents income info for financial aid for college.  emancipation for tax purposes is very different than financial aid, you are not going to be able to be declared independent, c'mon you  live with them.  Lets make one thing perfectly clear, your parents are SUPPORTING you by putting a roof over your head.

  2. If you're 18 you're an adult and can't be emancipated.

  3. hey here is a strange idea.

    pay cash !

go to community college - get 1st 2yrs of BS course work done.

work full time save ur money.

transfer ur credits to state college - pay cash.

at 18 u are 'emancipated' all ready.

u are just living at home.
