I just got a speeding ticket. I'm 19.

Can I do some kind of course, do community service, or pay a fee to erase the points? I just want a clean record and my insurance to not sky rocket

  1. In most states you can take a defensive driving course as long as you have not taken one within the past 18 months and once you have completed it then you must stay clean for 6 months for the ticket and points to stay off.

  2. depending on where you live, you may be able to take a DMV safe driver course to do it. other than that, only time with no violations can erase points.

  3. There are only 2 ways to take points off a driver's license. The 1st way is to take the defensive driver class, which eliminates 4 points. The only other way to remove points is through time.

If you get a speeding ticket, then you have 18 months from the date of the infraction for the points to expire. If you don't get any other pointable tickets during the 18 months, then whatever you got from the 1st ticket comes off.

  4. NO YOU CANNOT

The points are there as a punishment for your illegal driving.

    Speeding drivers are potential killers.

You should have thought about the impact on your insurance and your desire for a clean license before you drove faster than the speed limit.

Personally, I would suspend your license; you are clearly a danger to other road users. And that really would make any insurance expensive.
