Question:

Can I exchange Canadian Travellers Cheques at the banks in Cuba?

I do not wish to carry a lot of money with me and I usually take traveller's cheques to Mexico no problem. I'm not worried about cashing them in the shops - just banks or exchange houses. Has anyone had any problems with this? Thank you!

  1. It won't be a problem just be sure they aren't American Express but drawn on a Canadian bank.  You will be able to change them at your resort.

  2. You can do this but just remember that most banks, CADECA offices, hotels, and businesses charge commissions of between 1% and 5% for cashing traveler's cheques.

Otherwise, it won't be a problem.

And of course, make sure that your CAD cheques are either VISA or MasterCard (and nothing else that would be from a US based financial institution)...(some have had trouble getting Thomas Cook cheques.)

  3. Yes , but....

Be sure they are not issued by an US American bank.

I used Thomas Cook traveller cheques, they are accepted

but only in banks or CADECA ( official state exchange offices) . I don't use them anymore , it's not cheap and have had problems with the signature, they compared the signature on my passport with the signature on the cheques , there was a slight difference , they finally accepted the cheques, therefore always take enough cash with you for a few days.

I advise you to take one third in cash, one third in traveller

cheques and one third depending on your Visa creditcard.

( also not issued  by a US bank)
