I bought a new car last night. I drove it home. I like the way it handles but it is not comfortable. I want to exchange (take the car back) and upgrade the model. How do I do this? Can I do this?

  1. This has been discussed many times on here. "Cooling-off" and "buyer's remorse" do not apply to vehicle purchases. You do not have a certain time period to return the car by law.

If you signed paperwork and took delivery of the vehicle, it's yours.

You can try to talk to the dealer to see if they can unwind the deal and get you into something else, but they are not legally bound to do so.

  2. go back to seller/company, the one who sold you the car. tell them that you don't feel comfortable with your purchase. however you should double check your receipt, contract or any waiver that you signed when you bought the car. it may contain sentences such as "no return no exchange policy" and the like.

but next time it would be better to experience the test drive before making a final decision.

  3. A lot of states and provinces have "cool down" laws in place which give you time to change your mind with major purchases.    Even if your area does not have this, speak with your dealer.  Many dealers and manufacturers have programs in place for cases like this and they will let you trade your vehicle for another  one of their vehicles without penalty.

Do this today if possible though.  These laws and programs usually expire within one to three days or so of the original purchase.

  4. I heard in Michigan you have three days or 300 miles to return it. Not sure about other states. Take it back the worst thing they could say is "no".

  5. jesus tap dancing christ.....there is no "3 day cooling off period" or "buyer remorse" clauses, they do not exist...especially in michigan. I know,,I sold cars for a living in michigan.   What you maybe able to do, because you just bought it, is have the deal re-worked if it didn"t get sent through yet, but this time frame is very very short.  Call your salesman NOW, I mean right now and see if they can help you out!  Usually if a customer whats to upgrade they will try to help you out, but never expect to just be able to "return" a car.  And if anyone says different....like the dumb dumbs above me..ask them if they EVER have personally done it...if they say yes,,they are lying!

  6. speak to the dealership

  7. very easily if you still have the warranty which you should have with a new car you take it back to the show room say you like this car but you want the next model up the will have to take the car back by law than you pay the extra whatever to get the next model up and if they say no just mention the goods satisfaction act where if a item ( including a car ) is not up to your standards they have to take it back

  8. You can just take it back. All states have ''buyers remorse'' laws that permit a car buyer to return a car within a specified time,,with no penalty. This is meant to prevent abuses and ''overselling'' by dealers.

just drive it back right away and park it in thier lot and tell them you have changed your mind an for goodness sake be firm about it and not let them try to change your mind. Period.

  9. It depends on the individual dealer. There is no law that gives you the right to return a vehicle. You may lose some money on the deal.

Oh, and there is no such thing as a "cooling off law" or "buyer's remorse law" in any state, as far as car sales are concerned. Anybody that claims otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.
