Can I extend my stay in France without leaving to apply for a visa?

I am in France, staying with my girlfriend. I wanted to stay six months and I thought I could do so by leaving the EU before 90 days was up and returning for another 90 day stay. Now I'm finding out that that's not really legal.

Can I ask for an extension without leaving France to apply for a visa? I haven't found any references to doing this on the official French websites.

  1. I think the best way would be to contact the embassy or the consulate of your country in France.

You'll find all the contacts of foreign embassies in France on this website (click on your country)

    http://www.expatries.diplomatie.gouv.fr/...

    Hope it helps!

  2. It depends on you nationality. If u stayed the 3 months without needing a visa, then you have a chance. Worst case you will have to go back home and apply for a visa. But if you had a 1 year visa with 3 months stay, then it will be hard to find a solution. Good luck!
