Question:

Can I fertilize my garden with cat doodoo?

You see, fertilizer is expensive and with gas prices and everything I don't really want to buy any, but I want to grow some cucumbers and tomatoes and such this year, so I was wondering if I could just use my cat's poo and if I would be able to taste that in the food and whatever, because my cat is really hugely fat and he poos like 15-20 times a day, there's more than enough.

  1. Sure, just make sure you feed your cat the nutrients the plants need and train her to use you garden as her litterbox.

You could also ask the neighbors for their cat's poo.  I'm sure they'd be happy to give it to you.  ;-)

  2. You can definitely use it, and you won't taste it in the food. But you don't just put poo on your garden. You let it sit, and mix it with other soil. At least, that's what I've seen people do with horse and cow poo.

Personally, I can't keep my plastic plants alive, so you're welcome to the poo from my cat if you want to pay for the shipping.

Edit: Ok, after reading and researching, it looks like using cat poo is not a good plan after all. Start composting, as one answerer said. You can have all my compost-worthy scraps, if, again, you pay shipping. I'll pay less to have my garbage hauled off. :)

    Blessings!

  3. If you can't afford fertilizer, you can't afford the hospital bills you will be paying. Fertilizer is not produced from any meat eating animals f***s.

  4. Don't do it. The health hazards associated with cat or dog manure is too great a risk to your health.

Cat manure in particular carries parasites - toxoplasmosis  being one of the most serious ones but also oocysts - a form of the parasite that can survive in the environment for years and is resistant to most disinfectants.

Composting either form of manure would make it safe but only if the compost heap can exceed 165F for about 5 days. Backyard composting won't achieve this.

Chemicals can sterilize the manure but the cost and bother do not make this worth while.

  5. Sure, if you want a dead garden. Better yet, find a chicken farmer and offer to shovel out his chicken house once a week in exchange for you getting to keep the chicken p**p. Chicken p**p stinks to h**l, but it's an excellent fertilizer.

  6. It really depends on the cat's diet: if they eat mice and birds, then don't use the p**p to fertilize your garden.  However, if you feed the cat plant fertilizer first, then its just like recycling.

  7. For once I hope this saying in not true ------->"You reap what you sow"

  8. NO! Don't use any animal poo on your garden!

"...both dog and cat manure may contain organisms that cause human health problems...The health hazards associated with cat and dog manure are greater than the potential benefit from its fertilizer value. Cat and dog manure should be disposed of by flushing down the toilet, burying deep in the soil (six inches or more) or by placement in tight plastic bags for garbage collection."

I have a small compost pile which I use for my coffee grounds, old vegetables, garden leaves, and any food that's not meat. It makes free nutrient rich soil great for any plants.

Here's a link for how to do it:

  9. I would recommend using human waste as well, especially if your garden is closer to your neighbors house than your own.

  10. Don't see why not.  p**p is p**p.

Just train him to use the cucumber and tomato section as his own private kitty box.

You save the messy clean up and get tomatoes with a slight tuna taste to them and cucumbers with a hint of anchovy essence.

    Everybody wins.

  11. Please don't.  Carnivore p**p is not an adviseable fertilizer.  You want herbivore p**p ( chicken, horse, cow ).  Is there a farm nearby?  Talk to the owner of the farm and see if they have any extra p**p available.

  12. No!

cats & dogs p**p have parasites that can migrate to humans....don't do it....

better start composting....you can reuse all your organic trash that way....

  13. Well let me know if you run low, I have bags of cat poo that I can send you.  I have 14 cats and I can't keep up.

  14. Sensible got it right. Rule of thumb-vegetation for vegetation, no recycled meats or poultry or by products. This might be what is causing outbreaks today.

  15. Ms. Sophia,  As a matter of fact, I am on my way outside to garden.  Just wanted to say:  ewwwwwwwweee...yuckie, gagging up my toenails!!  Please remind me never accept an invitation from you for a soup and salad luncheon.

Oh...one more thing... PEW......WEEEE!!!!! What a lovely, summer afternoon aroma for your neighbors.

  16. i just pee on my plants.  living in a big city, i'm getting quite an audience now.  i'm starting to do stunts now to please my fans.  once i get them hooked, i'm going to put up a fence and charge admission.  ironically, fertilizing is going to help me afford to buy feritilizer.
