A few years ago I was diagnosed with RA (rhumetoid arthritis), It has been difficult to find the right treatment but doc is still working on it. Shouldn't I be seeing a rhumetologist, my doc hasn't sent me to one? Anyhow, now I am having back problems and am in a lot of pain on a daily basis. I do work part time but the work is very physical and I go home barely able to walk. Should I or can I file for social security disability? I'm not lazy by far and don't mind working, it gives me some social time, but the pain is becoming worse over time. My family has mentioned disability so I figured I would inquire about it. What do you think?

  1. You can get disability for sure- it's based on how much SS you've built up over the years. RA is a disability. I have a disability that hinders my ability to work- even though I love what I do and I've been spending thouuuuusands of dollars on college to do what I do. So I found a way to work from home doing something similar to what I did at work. I'm also looking for ways to find grants and loans for people/women with disabilities starting a business- I hear it's possible.

It sucks having to admit that you can't do something that you know you can, an have been able to do for so long. When life gives you lemons right?

  2. Oh dear...

By all means, ask since the arthritis is keeping you from working. And see the specialist, and find another doctor since the one you're seeing now isn't sending you to someone who can help.

    Good luck!

  3. So find a job you can do and that isn't physical and work full time!  Disability is for people who really need it, not for people who are to lazy to change thier lives around to work for them!

  4. you should have your doctor fill out a form stating you cannot work full time and send it in with your application.  Expect to get denied a few times.  My friend has cancer, no tongue, weighs like 80 lbs now, cannot speak etc.  She was denied 2 or 3 times at first.

They do end up giving you back money from the first time you applied though so it's no big deal.. They're trying to weed out the ppl who don't need it I guess.
