I heard there is shortage of people in the field of media.

Is that true? And how hard is it for a non-Eu citizen to find a job in Germany?

  1. There's a shortage in the field of IT (information technology), so if you have qualifications as a system administrator, programmer or anything like that you might be lucky.

The Arbeitsamt has a search engine on their page.

    http://www.arbeitsagentur.de/

Click on "Jobbörse" and a search form will open.

In the field "Beruf / Tätigkeit / Ausbildung" enter the search term "Web-Designer/in", then click "Suche ausführen".

You can also adjust the search criteria by defining a city or area around that city, if you already have an idea where you want to live.

Also, speaking German is definitely an advantage to get a job.

Generally, it's pretty hard to get a working permit if you're not from the EU. It's a little bit easier if you have a contract with a German company.

I'd recommend you contact your local German embassy. They can provide you with the neccessary information and help you with the paperwork.

  2. http://www.monster.de lists currently about 20 vacant positions as Web Designer and 4 as Graphic Designer (I guess they have a different job title for that).

http://www.arbeitsagentur.de (national employment office, not so reliable) lists more than 100 postitions as Graphic-Designer, but that seems to be mostly for advertising, so it's probably rather designing of brochures etc. and none for Web Designer (their stupid search engine doesn't know that job title.EDIT Lee L is right, if you spell it Web-Designer there are lots of hits.).

All in all, I guess you can't really call that a shortage.

You should have a college degree in that respective field

(germany is very bureaucratic, very difficult to get hired without the correct papers = certificates) and should speak the language.

For people in IT its generally not so difficult to land a job in germany, though it can still take months. If you're serious, I suggest you try to find a job BEFORE coming here.Use job search engines and inform yourself on expat sites like

http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/ , quite a few expats on that site are in the IT business.

  3. you will need to call THEIR  employment office to have that question answered
