Can I fit a mixer tap myself?

I have a new mixer tap - but can I fit it myself? I have no real plumbing experience and no specialist plumbing equipment, but I'm willing to give it a try! If I can - any tips would be much appreciated!!

Believe in yourself study the job in hand before attempting to have a go.

Consider the following

Tools to tackle the job

Access you have in removing the old tap's and installing the new mixer tap (is it a confined space)

What is a great help these days are flexible fittings to connect your tap to your existing pipe work

Make sure you know how to turn off your hot and cold supply before starting work.

A good DIY book would help you.

If you look like your avatar I am afraid you stand little chance, but get yourself a good DIY manual (which should be compulsory for any household) you can do it, no problem at all.

To be honest, without a fair level of DIY experience, you could end up calling a professional anyway.  And you will need some special tools ... I replaced my bath taps recently ( they were 25 years old ) and I managed but I did need a tap wrench and some decent adjustable spanners as well .... I really think you will need help with a mixer tap though as there will be two pipes with reducer connections etc. It also depends on whether you are replacing like for like.

You will need a plumbers wrench and "plumbers mate" tape Assuming the taps are the correct size, turn off hot and cold water, unscreww old taps, apply "plumbers mate" to the threads and s***w on new tap, then turn on water and check for leaks.

It's straightforward s***w off and s***w on. However because of the location, the taps are fiddly to reach.
