Question:

Can I fit hub gears to a single speed bike?

I have an old malvern star step-through bike which is just what I want, fitwise but it's single speed and not good for my needs. Because of the rear axle length, it's not possible to put external gears on.

  1. you may find it easier to buy a new bike due to buying a multi geared wheel. find out how much each would cost and work from there.

  2. I'm not sure but i don't see why not.

Problem is, you would have to get a new hub (obviously) and change the spokes and rim over. the you would have to install a new cog on the rear so all in all it would be a very expensive way to go.

it is definately possible, theres no doubt about it but there is a fair amount fo work involved in that excercise.
