I just stained a bathroom vanity and the spots where I applied wood putty (nail holes mostly) flashed through a different color. I haven't applie polyurethane yet and I want to fix the blemishes. Is it possible to just sand down those spots and reapply stain? Or is there a better way to fix it?

  1. Yes, you can apply more stain with an artist's brush, then apply your first ( thinned ) coat of polyurethane. Then after sanding the first coat ( after it's dry ) you might have to apply a little more on your filler spots. Basically you have to become an artist in order to " fool " the human eye. For instance, the same stain might not neccessarily be the right color anymore and you might have to tweak it.
