I have a 2002 wrangler tj and I heard that on some older jeeps you could get 2-3" of lift just by flipping the axles. Is this true and if so, about how much would this cost me?

  1. If you did, it would go backward in "forward" gears, forward if in reverse.  Think about it.  Also, the first guy was right on about suspension.

  2. pickupma is right don't be welfare go buy a lift

  3. No you cant you have coil springs that are already mounted ontop of the axles. FLIPPING the axles refers to a leaf sprung vehicle where the leaf springs are mounted under neath the axle, by moving the above the axle you gain 3"-4" of lift and increase axle wrap.  This can not be done with a coil sprung vehicle.

  4. No

Older Jeeps had leaf springs that connected to the bottom of the axles.  Some people would move the leaf springs to the top of the axles and get a couple of extra inches lift - you didn't actually flip the axle, just changed where the leaf spring bolted up.

Your TJ doesn't have leaf springs, but instead has coils, so this fix doesn't apply to you.

  5. No you can't for the reasons mentioned above, but why would you?  You can get what they call a "budget boost" lift which consists of polyurethane spacers and sometimes new shocks for less than $300 They take an hour or two to install and allow you to run larger tires.

  6. NO.  You have a coil sprung wrangler, the suspension is already mounted above the axle.  Earlier incarnations of the wrangler were leaf sprung with the axle above the spring mounts.  Moving the springs to the top of the axle would raise the vehicle the diameter of the axle.
