Question:

Can I fly domestically with an expired driver's license ?

I have a domestic flight this weekend. I realized my driver's license was expired this morning. On top of that, I lost my wallet this week with my Social Security Card in it (my work had a photocopy on record -- so I have that). Will they let me board the plane with an expired ID ? I have credit cards, library card, insurance cards, etc. Do you think it would help if I went downtown today and got a copy of my birth certificate ? I guess I'm just asking if anyone else has showed up at the airport with an expired ID and what other documents were necessary to board the flight. Thanks !

  1. Well, the legal answer is that is supposed to be Valid.

However, this personally  happend to two people i know, and airport security did not even notice it. Either that or they just did not care.

  2. I think the best thing for you to do is call the airline carrier or find a  toll-free number to TSA  to ask them directly. then you'll know for sure what your next step will be.

  3. The answer is yes. If they catch it when you are checking in at the ticket counter you will need to go thru extra screening.

Make sure your checking in at least one hr. before your departure time unless your leaving from a larger airport then add 30 mins.

  4. You have to have a government issued photo ID.  Chances are, the agents at the counter won't let you board the aircraft without it.

IF they allow the birth certificate, you will be subjected to extra screening and background check.
