I live in the US and would like to be able to fly in Europe too. Will an FAA PPL license be adequate?

  1. Yes, if the plane is a US (Tail number beginning with N)

registered plane. Otherwise you would have to convert your FAA  certificate to what ever governing body applies

  2. To fly for a french operator you would need to convert your FAA license to a JAA license.

  3. No... you will need to apply for a French PPL or equivalent. It's possible that they will accept your FAA PPL in lieu of a practical test, and just give you a French/JAA or whatever is used there.

I can't name the license you do need but it will require at least some paperwork and a visit to their equivalent of a FSDO.
