Question:

Can I forward calls to a UK Cell Phone from the US?

My mother recently moved to the UK. She doesn't have a landline or the internet. Her only means of communication is a prepaid cell phone that can receive incoming calls for free. I'd like to set her up with a virtual number in the US that will forward her calls to the UK cell (ideally for a flat monthly rate, not a per-minute rate). Does anyone know of a service that could help me out?

  1. The other way round (from UK to USA) is easy : signup an account with voipuser.org. They will issue you with a UK phone number (an 0845 or 0844 etc, depending on where it forwards to) which forwards to wherever you like. e.g. I have a UK 0844 number that rings in my appartment in Paris and another that sends incoming faxes to my email.

So what you need is a US service that does exactly this.

A google search on call forwarding drew up loads of results. Check them out. Bear in mind that it would have to be a premium rate number to cover the cost of dialing cellphones (UK cellphones are expensive to call), or have a very hefty monthly charge.

You could also simply activate the call forwarding feature on your your home phone line (take out a second line), to forward to the UK mobile. The call charges would then be on your home phone bill. I do this regularly from my home phone when visiting the UK. It works a treat.
