Question:

Can I get Exploratory Surgery for This?

I've been having this pain for about 3 or 4 months straight. It gets so bad that I feel like I spend more time in the E.R. than at home. I've had CT scans, ultrasounds, and even a colonoscopy, but they still don't know what it is. Can I get an exploratory surgery so they can look inside to see if they see anything?

  1. You need to make an appointment with your doctor and express your concerns.  He'll refer you to a surgeon if he agrees with you that this would be the best option.  That's unlikely, however.  Surgery is usually a last resort in general.

  2. probably not, if nothing shows on all the tests they have done, a surgeon isn't likely going to be willing to cut you open just to have a look.  Surgery is an invasive and really very risky thing to do, and surgeons don't do it unless there are very strong indications that it is necessary.  What you may have better luck requesting is an exploratory laparoscopy.  Good luck.
