Recently NY State placed a levy on my bank account even though I was making regular payments. I was given no notice from the State or the bank that this was going to happen. I really need this money to live off of being that I am retired and also I am the primary supporter of my household. Can anyone please offer advise as to how I can get the levy lifted and can get them to give back the money and just allow me to continue making payments?

  1. The resolution to this problem depends on circumstances you have not described.  If you were current on all payments and did not owe addition tax for any year after the collection started there may be hope to have the levy released.  If not there is little chance they will release the levy.

  2. I have had this happen to me.  I tried for 3 weeks to get the levy off and no luck.  I called a CPA and he called his special CPA phone number and the levy was gone and my payments were even reduced.  He was well worth the cost and it actually saved me money overall.  Once these tax agencies get to the levy point, they are done with you...get some professional help.
