Question:

Can I get a MI license even if I have an expired CA license and that I have an outstanding DUI charge in OR?

Alright, this one might sound confusing but here goes:

Back in April of 2005, I was arrested in Oregon and was charged with a DUI and Reckless Driving (both misdemeanors)...

At the time, they took my CA license but, after getting out of jail overnight, I ditched out and went back to Oregon without ever facing the charges or court appearance.

Now I am living in MI and am trying to get a license. My CA license expires on my birthday in Sept and, because I am technically a MI resident I can't apply for a new CA license.

The problem is, is that I went to the DMV in MI to get my license and they said that I have a block due to OR.

A couple of questions I have:

Can I obtain a license in CA or MI?

After 3 years of never being CONVICTED of the DUI and Reckless Driving in Oregon, could they still prosecute me?

I need a driver's license in Michigan, what do I do?

HELP!!!

  1. MI has already told there was a block on your license  from OR so why ask?  As far as the DUI, you could be in big touble for not going to court, this will never go away.

In order to get a renewal in CA on an expired license you will have to show residencey and retake the the written and driving test.

The DUI from Oregan will haunt you until ou get it straightened out. Then you can go to MI and get your DL.  Good Luck

  2. You will not get a license any where in the US until you sort out the DUI in OR.  Since they have charged you, they can prosecute you at any time, there is no limit as to how long they can wait.  You have not been convicted because you ran out of the state.

What can you do?  Settle up with OR on the DUi.
