  1. No the W-2 is not an option.

    try one of the following:

    1. a current bill

    2. bank statement

    3.pay stub

    4. letter from landlord

    5 copy of the lease

  2. No, they are only required to provide them by January 30th of the following year.  For the DMV, could you provide them with a paystub or a certified letter from your employer?  I would think that would be sufficient.

  3. No.  A W-2 is not proof of residency anyway.  Utility bills, a passport or voter registration might work.

  4. End of January is the deadline for sending a W2; true enough.  But it's a form that declares what a company has paid you, and it goes to the IRS.  So unless you're planning to leave sometime soon, your company isn't going to say "Here's what we've paid this person." since that'll change.

Proof of residency...  last year's taxes, utility bills, an apartment lease, ...  No point in us guessing since the DMV will have a list of what they'll accept.

  5. No. But you can go to the IRS office and request a Return Transcript and provide to the DL office.  The Transcript will have the address you used to file your taxes.

  6. They are only processed at the end of the year.

Ask your landlord to verify your residency on their company letterhead or take a utility bill.

  7. Use your last years tax return

  8. The 08 W-2 forms aren't even printed yet.  Why don't you point this out to the requesting agency and ask for alternative documents to give proof of residency. The W-2 form has nothing on it that would pertain to residency anyway; any address can be used.  Talk to a supervisor at the driver's license station; you may have run into a newbie.
