Can I get a branch in robotics in which I have to deal with only the software part of robotics?

The software part of robotics is what interests me the most. Is it possible to choose only that branch of robotics?

  1. if you're interested with the software part of robotics, then maybe you're interested with softwares as a whole. why not deal with softwares, maybe robotics is included in its scope.

but robotics is an interesting field as a whole. why not give it's hardware part a try. having an understanding of the electronics of the robot is a good start and background.

    (^-,^)

  2. its very easy dude.... undergo a course in CNC  programming of robots .... its in MIT

  3. I highly doubt it, because you would have to have a understanding of the electronics of the Robot to write software for it. It may be possible though.

  4. In places where Robots are designed and made by large companies, it is typical to have a mechanical designer, an embedded software developer, and higher-level software developer. Teams can be quite large.

In other cases, the developers will buy a robot platform that has mechanical functions abstracted away by some form of library/middleware.

The key is that in either case, people want robots that perform some function and the rest of it is just a necessary evil. In other words, customers/CEOs/etc. don't care if your robot uses treads or wheels. They care that it can go put out a fire (or whatever its purpose is).

If you want to do the higher-level functions, focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and other robotic algorithms (for example, artificial vision, route planning, etc.). Navigation of robotic vehicles right now is very hot, for example.
