Can I get a copy of my husbands life insurance policy?

My husnband is deployed, and i would like to know if i can aquire or at least look at a copy of his insurance policy? i do have a full power of attorney.

  1. He should already have one and I'm assuming you are the beneficiary. But in any case yes you should be able to get a copy by contacting the policy provider.


  2. It was my understanding that only the owner of the policy (not the beneficiary or the policy owner's spouse) could get a copy of the policy.

    However, Power of Attorney may be the key here.

    I haven't dealt with that situation before.

    I would suggest calling the insurance carrier and asking if the Power of Attorney would grant you access.

  3. If you have full POA, then you should be able to request a copy of his policy.   You'll have to send it in to them, though.

  4. Insurance policies are private transactions.  Unless you have a valid reason to exercise your legal POA, the company should not give you any information.  Even if he passed away, they shouldn't release any information to you until they have a death certificate and confirm you are party to the contract.

    I'm not saying they won't, just they shouldn't.
