My mom passed away two years ago. I want to let her biological siblings know. She was in contact with them on and off. Can I request a copy of her records?

  1. it depends on what type of adoption she had, open or closed....if its closed, no....

  2. yes you can file for a death certificate, look in the phone book under state listings the green or blue pages. sorry about your mom. god bless.

  3. It depends what state she was born in and/or adopted in.

It has nothing to do with whether it was a closed or open adoption - if a state seals all original papers once the adoption is complete (which most US states do) - then you won't be able to get them.

Check here on the state -

Try and find any papers of your mother's to see if she left clues behind of family names and contact details - this would be your first place to check.

If you have no other leads - you may have to start the search from scratch once more.

If you need further help searching - ask here for help -

I'm sorry that you lost your mum.
