Can I get a decent starter mountain bike for under $400?

  1. check out the diamondback bikes i think the response would be best that or you could check out the giant boulder or craigslist


  2. well im selling mine for $200 in good condition i'll get new parts its worth a fare amount so its a bargain iv got two but i dont go riding anymore for it before you buy. its a massano. its got full front and back suspension...

  3. not really. Decent mountain bikes are generally $500 at LEAST. Trust me, in the bike industry, you have to buy well to get a good item. Don't go cheap skating around because you might end up with a dodgy item and you will end up hurting yourself.

  4. Yes, most of the bike shops will have a starter bike at that price.

  5. No.  You will get a bike that weighs almost 40lbs.  Your bike will rarely shift properly and never on command.  You will most likely wait 2 seconds for the shift to occur.  You will be going 10mph on a tiny 2% incline while struggling when someone else on a decent road bike will pass you at 20mph and make you look extremely out of shape.  You need to spend money to get a decent bike.  Otherwise nobody would spend $1,000 or even $15,000 on a bicycle.
