Can I get a degree in Linguistic anthropology? Would that first require a degree in anthropology?

A bachelor's degree in anthropology would certainly help, and I would suggest applying to schools that have linguists on the anthro department faculty listings so you can take classes from them.  The anthropology degree would give you a good background in the field as a whole and introduce you to the foundations of anthropological thinking and research.

    It would also help to have another major in another language (and possibly a minor in yet another) to get a language foundation.  If any indigenous languages are offered in the department, take classes in one (a lot of anthropological linguistic research is done in indigenous languages).

    There are linguistic anthropology masters and PhD programs out there - if there are linguistic anthropologists on the faculty at your undergraduate institution, they will be able to point you toward graduate programs that fit your interests.
