Question:

Can I get a job at an Amerian Business in Germany?

I'm an American who's lived in Germany for three years. I've been looking for a job all around Pirmasens (lucky me, they've got one of the highest unemployment rates in DE) but can't seem to get around the red-tape of Work Permits. That is, all the potential supervisors say I work well and "we'd love to hire you" but that the Work Permits take too long and they need me to start now. Which I can't do. Thanks to the Work Permits.

If I worked at an American Firm (like Convar, or on the base in Rammstein), do I still have to jump through all those hoops and wait until they've checked if an EU citezin or German wants the job first?

I really need a job!

  1. Not sure what your residential status is. Did you marry a German? But basically, you need conversational German to interact with a German workforce and its customers. If you work American on-base, that takes a security clearance, and no work permit. Used to be, once you got a permanent residency, the work permit was included. But, Germany is determined as of late, with preserving German. Their generosity with the Russians, to allow them residency without knowing German was abused. You must show you can fill out a German form at the County government office.
