I just started getting advanced EIC payments on my paycheck this August. I only got an extra $33.00 on my pay check. I remember someone telling me they applied every year in december so they could have christmas money. I thought since it is more than half way through the year that I would at least get half of the total amount that can be paid out in a single year. which is $1700/yr. How does this work? can I request more money from my employer? Will I have to wait until December? If so, when in December will it come? It must have to come before Christmas because of all the people doing it every year for christmas money...right? but I need it now!!!

  1. No, the way it works you just get a portion of your expected estimated EIC, spread over the year or what's left of it when you fill out the W-5 form.  There's nothing special about December.

  2. You heard wrong.

AEIC is based on your paycheck and the amount is determined by a table.  The employer will not increase the amount.

Your friend got an expensive loan each Christmas based on the idea they could pay it back when they filed their taxes.

  3. You can't get a lump sum.  The whole point of advance EIC is to give you extra money to help out during the year.
