Can I get a man's mountain bike for under $1000?

My bf wants one for his bday but all the ones he looks at are always around $2000. I can't afford that. Where can I get a good one for a good price? Especially since I know he won't use it that frequently!

Yes. I recomend going to a couple websites like craigslist.com, amozon.com,  i highly recomend craigslist i use it alot.

it depend for the much money  ahd full supension is decent and a  hardtail is really good at the the price i have just the thing  get him a diamondback overdrive pro its a little more money like 200 more but you can but it on layaway   its a hardtail with 29inch wheels that roll over more better than 26 inch it has lots of features on it take a look at it    if you want to get him a full suspension  bike  here is a really good one featured on mountain bike magzines  its 864.00  the bike is by giant its called the  giant yukon fx its pretty good bike for the price the magzine said if you want just one bike in the house this is it  should those are 2 you might want to see

don't listen to people that tell you to go wal mart.  that stuff is junk, especially for someone with your budget.

if he's looking at $2000 bikes and you plan to stay under $1000 you may have a problem.  i think you can get a very good bike for $1000, but he may not be satisfied at that level.  you should reconsider your idea.

Yes. Either go around to a couple of garage sales and second-hand stores and fix one up (customize!), or just go shopping around. Places like Wal-Mart and Zellers have mountain bikes that your boyfriend would probably love (maybe even more than the expensive :)   ).

The answer is yes you can.

You can get a pretty nice hard tail for that price and or entry level full suspension bike.

Sure you can.  It's crazy for people that aren't into cycling the prices of bikes.

You could get some very good hardtails (bikes with only front suspension) that will really be good for most people.

Go to different bike shops and see what's around.  It's hard to say 'go to this bike shop and get this or that model'.  Bring your BF with you so he can try them and see how they fit.

Several brands that are good (but not the only ones) are Cannondale, Specialized, Marin, Trek, GT, Giant, Kona, Trek.
