Question:

Can I get a tax disc straight away from the post office?

I'm going to be paying and picking up a car on Wednesday that I've already put a deposit down on. It hasn't got a tax disc so can I go to the post office and get one as soon as I've payed and registered the car under my name? I'm not going to risk driving it back until it has the tax disc.

So if I take my licence, insurance docs and log book to the post office on Wednesday, will they give me the disc straight away?

  1. Yes, they will issue on the day, you need to take the small green slip you will have been given off the V5 (logbook), insurance certificate and MOT certificate if it needs one.

  2. yes you can you dont need your drivers liscence you just need your part of the log book saying you own it and your insurance certificate also the cars MOT cert, thats how i got my tax disc wen my new car had no tax.

  3. yes as long as you have car insurance & mot certificate....

  4. i do not know where these plebs get there information from you do not need a drivers licence to tax a car all you need is your insurance a mot and if you have just got the car the log book and you will get the tax disc there and then

  5. yes, you need driving licence, mot certificate and insurance certificate with you

edit, take the paper if you can but often most dont check everything

  6. Not all Post Offices do tax discs, but assuming your does all you need is the tear-off portion of the logbook (which you keep when you and the vendor complete the V5), your certificate of insurance and valid MoT certificate if it needs one - plus the money. They'll hand you the disc there and then.
