Can I get a ticket just for crossing a thick white line before the traffic light?

Hi,

I am afraid, I got a red light ticket.Wanted to ask for your opinion on my issue. I was, actually, trying to stop when the yellow light went on but didn't try to press on breaks very hard.As a result, I had crossed a white thick line with my front wheels, but didn't enter the intersection. Then, I noticed a couple of bright flashes next to my car. It was a rainy weather today and slippery road. Can I claim it in my situataaion? Did i break the law by crossing a thick white line?

Thank you.

  1. Be careful claiming you slid, they could cite you for driving too fast for conditions which is a catchall charge that fits almost any situation.  You could claim that the rain obscured the white line.  This ticket is not a big deal, but if you fight it they will often allow you to plead to something like a parking ticket to avoid taking up the courts time, especially for something so minor.  Good luck

  2. Yes you can explain the situation to them, but still you'll have to pay the fine... you should be lucky you didn't get a ticket for speeding...

try not to speed on a rainy day, it'll could cost you more than a fine ticket... try to adjust your brake system and check your tire if it needs replacements...

take care and drive carefully next time....

  3. Your fine and have nothing to worry about, you stopped and didn't run the light, those cameras are just set to take the picture no matter what on a red light once a car passes a certain point. It was just a really bad stop and nothing else.

I was pushed into an intersection by a bus that wasn't stopping properly. It was a short green light and quickly turned back to red, I made a sudden stop to avoid running the light but a bus was behind me and couldn't make the stop so I ran the light instead of getting re-ended by the bus. I saw a flash and knew a camera caught me but I never got the ticket.

  4. well you didn't run the light. If they send you a ticket that says you went over the white line, pay it. own up to what you did. its not a big deal.

  5. It's definately worth looking into. Make sure that you remember to mention all of this...  If nothing else, those claims may be able to get you a lesser charge/fee.

  6. You are not supposed to touch the line however it seems to me that you have a valid excuse, fight it in court, bring a weather report that hsows it was raining, explain that you were not speeding and that you tried to stop WAY WAY WAY ahead but hidroplaned and touched the line, be specific as to how many feet from the line etc... Dress nicely, look prepared, look at the judge in the eyes and be on time. Good luck

  7. nope

if you pass it up it just means that the light wont turn green for a whileeee

trust me my mom got told by a police officer that well be sittin there for a while but she never got in trouble... she does it alll the time LOL
