Question:

Can I get a white couch to black by spraying it with dye?

It's a simple studio type canvas couch. Would like to hide some stubborn stains that would not lift off. I had a thought that maybe I could use a spray bottle and spray like crazy!? Once dry tho...does anyone have suggestion of what to over spray with? I sure don't want the dye to rub off on our guest.

  1. yes you can and if you take your time and do it properly the result will be quite good !

if you dont want to spend the big bucks on upholstering its a good alternative.

http://www.simplyspray.com.au/category3_... is an australian compant that i have used before but im sure there are equivilant products all around the world.

its good that you are wanting to go to black, this is the easiest color to get looking good.

Just make sure you apply exactly as the directions say !

  2. No! you can't!

    just buy seat covers.  jeesh.

  3. its a shame the covers dont come of to put in the wash to dye them. i know you can buy fitted covers to put on the couch that are nice, i cantthink of anyway to dye it because the counch would have to be washed really well afterwards. also you could get the covers changed my a upholster.

have you tired using a rugdoctor to get rid of the stains. wen you rent them they come with a upholstry attactment to clean furniture. i think these work really well

  4. I suppose that you could use matt black spray paint on it, but results are not guaranteed, and if you do spray it,wear a protective mask and do the job in the open air to avoid inhaling the fumes. It might be easier to just buy a cover for it.

  5. How valuable is the couch? Have you thought of upholstery?

It can sometimes work out better as there are some really good wipe-able fabrics that you can get now. These are used by upholsterers when they do lounge room sweets and couches to good effect and come in colours that don't show stains.

Give it some thought. Get some prices. I wouldn't spray. I think that it would wreck the fabric that is on the couch now.
