I want to get my tooth fixed in mexico, hopefully near Corpus Christi, and some people say that you only need your ID, while others argue that you also need your birth certificate. I know that you don't need a passport to cross on land until the summer of '09.

  4. Yes.

For land travel across the US border, US border officials are asking for proof of citizenship - Passport OR Birth Certificate w/ photo ID such as a US Drivers license.

HOWEVER, US citizens who do not have a Passport or Birth Certificate will not be refused re-entry into the US.

  5. I think it would be best to take both birth certificate and drivers licence just in case the rs any questions.

    Most likely  no problem.

  6. The currenjt requirement specifically states that you must have a gov't issued photo I.D. and a proof of citizenship...EITHER a pasport OR a birth certificate. See site below to read carefully.
