  1. I'm not sure what your asking but your computer supports both interfaces.  Sata connects through a small wire, and plug.  While ide connects through a much larger one.  However, I suggest using Sata because it tends to be much quicker than IDE.

    IDE cables look like this:

    And Sata look like this:

  2. Your DELL motherboard can support either an IDE or SATA hard drive -- it's your choice. The motherboard will be able to control hardrives present on the IDE and SATA interfaces at the same time.

    I hope this helps

  3. If you look far enough down that list of specs:

    Drives:

    Available devices

Serial ATA drives (2), floppy drive, USB memory devices, CD drive, CD-RW drive, DVD drive, DVD-RW drive, DVD and CD-RW combo drive, and Media Card Reader

Your dell has 2 sata ports on the motherboard. Look for a small connector with an L shaped Pin in the middle.

You can use both IDE and SATA at the same time, you'll simply need to specify in the bios which you want to boot from.

  4. get a IDE to SATA converter or a SATA to IDE converter.

    example:

  5. According to the specs you have both SATA and IDE connectors.  You connect the SATA drive to the SATA connectors. Cables should come with the drive, or are cheap enough to pick up.  You should be good to go.
