I want to use an HDMI cable I already own but I can't use it and the RCA cables that came with my 360. In trying to find a solution I believe I am reading that both Audio and Video will be sent over my HDMI cable. Can I just hook up the HDMI cable and get both audio and video on my TV?

  1. Yes. The HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable transmits both 1080p HD video and 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround sound. If you use just any HDMI cable, you can connect that you your television to get both audio and video out of your television. If you have a surround sound system, you have a couple of options. You can either run a regular HDMI cable into your TV and then a fiber optic cable FROM your television to your receiver. Or you can buy the HDMI cable designed for the Xbox 360, which has a port on it to run a fiber optic from the cable to a surround sound receiver.

To respond to what you added about your television, as long as you have an HDMI input on your television, you will need nothing else to get both audio and video from your 360 to the television. The HDMI cable will carry both to your television and then your television will play both.
