I recently purchased a new laptop from dell Inspiron 1525 and I thought that it had fairly decent components- intel core 2 duo T7250 processor, 800mhz, 2m L2 cache; 3gb ddr2, 667mhz 2dimm, 320g 5400 rpm harddrive; 8x dvd drive; and intels media accelerator x3100 (which isnt as good as the installable nvidias that I wish i had, but I had no choice in the video card) and it came with vista

Anyway, I thought I would be able to play some games on here (the sims 2 and maybe spore)- well the sims played for about 3 seconds before it locked up the computer and I havent been able to play it since. I have noticed that the minimum requirements to play these games are higher for vista than for other windows operating systems- for instance sims2 needs a 2.4ghz processor for vista and only 1.8ghz for xp, and there are other differences as well. My question is will I be able to get better game performance if I change my operating system from Vista to XP

  1. free space and RAM in ur cpu and vista will be as good as XP. laptop lags easily (since i broke 3 of em by playing online games) so i suggest getting a normal comp

  2. no get more memory like a external harddrive

  3. To be honest, that laptop is pretty weak.  I myself would never buy something with such low components with Vista.  I would definitely switch downward to XP because even with a monster laptop Vista sucks it down unbelievably.

I've upgraded my computer so many times to play The sims 2 with good speed, and finally I succeeded by upgrading the RAM.  The Sims 2 takes up over a half gig of RAM by itself.
