  1. I've never been to Austria but I'm living in Germany.  From my experience here, it seems like it varies city to city.  I'm guessing the ppl there will know minimal English.  You could probably get by just fine, but I would at least learn a couple of key words and phrases and get a phrasebook and/or dictionary.  A little bit of the language goes a long way.

  2. Hi my friend

I lived in Austria and worked for an Austrian gentleman.for a year.and English was only language I communicate with him and everybody else.(my English as my  third language was not perfect too) but also I learned couple of greeting in German and also the numbers.

It is a beautiful country you will enjoy it.

    people are super nice.

  3. I believe you can......at least in the big cities and the tourist traps.  When we visited we went into the mountains into small towns with our foreign exchange student....and there we really need her and her german speaking ability, but eveywhere else you're fine with english.

  4. Yes, in the mostly touristy areas and larger cities: Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Linz, etc. Most young people speak 3+ languages these days. You will not have any problems ordering meals, confirming a room reservation, etc. It's usually older people (50+ years) which know limited English. I have used both English and German when I visit Austria.
