Can I get by in Peru or Argentina (major cities) for six months with six thousand dollars?

I would like to take spanish course there as well and preferably want to live with a family, not on my own as I would get lonely and feel somewhat anxious...is it possible to do on this dollar amount with my main expenses being, food, lodging, transportation, and spanish courses?

I think that if you are smart those $6,000 could last you for a yr. My advise is to :

* cash your dollars in Soles or Peruvian co int when the dollar is in his highest return.

*  Don' t change all your dollars at once plan ahead, first shop around for your school. You could find different prices depending the town that you go.

* be aware that someplaces will tried to charge you more because you are a forenor.

* Tried to save your money by not shopping because clothing in the center of Peru is the same as in USA.

* Don't eat out in fancy restaurant because it will cost you big dollars. tried to find small family restarunts that charge $ 4 a menu , wich is everything include: soup, dinner and drink .

* Be aware that sometimes a little of disconfort is the key of saving.

* $60000= to 9500 soles that is pretty good amount for 6 months but is you dont used wisely it could be gone in 2 months.

in Peru you can live as a king with 6000 dollars for 6 months. people of middle class in Peru live with 1  or 2 thousand dollars in a moth. and this family is integrate for 4 or 5 person. sorry for my English ..........

I believe you can because the cost of living there is so low and poverish, but you would not have much money to enjoy your time. As in souvenirs and restaurants and etc.

Yeah, You'll survive.  U'll have change left over too.  US$6000=Peru $19,093.20  AND US$6000=Argentina $18,552.00.  It doesn't cost that much to take classes.  The most expensive thing would probably be the lodging AND THAT isn't really expensive.

6,000 dollars will get you a long way in peru for Six months. You can get a nice apartment for $300 a month in Lima. You can eat like a king and still have money left over.
