My partner's mother brought her a car as she is learning to drive. I will be the main driver and will have car insurance for this car. Can I tax the car with my insurance details even if the car is in my partners name?

  1. Yes, all you need is the Valid MOT and a valid insurance cert. with the car registration on it.

(i dont know if i might have missread that, im assuming you've insured yourself on that vehicle?)

  2. based upon your condition,I think you should find something useful here.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  3. As long as the cars reg No. is on the insurance certificate, yes. The insurance required is for the car, not a particular named driver.

The registration document is for the keeper, who is not necessarily the owner.

For whoever it is giving thumbs down to all the correct answers, have a look at question 6 on this DVLA link!.....

  4. no , the log book has to be in your name aswell as you being the main policy holder on the insurance to tax the car for her.  There is no way around it. the car has to registered to you as being the registered keeper

  5. no, a car needs to be covered by insurance with the registration number written on a policy somewhere.

If you buy over the coutner -the post office will check the registration. If you buy on-line, the DVLA will check with insurance brokers, looking for the registration.

If this wasn't the case, every household would have just one policy

edit: re-reading your question i'm not sure i understand. The policy you'll have, will that be soley for this car, or for your own ?

If you have bought insurance for a car owned by someone else you need to make sure the insurer knows.

  6. call your insurance company and they should tell you

there are so many rules that its all guess work unless you get answer from the insurance company or car tax office/post office

but i dont think one insurance policy will cover two cars

  7. Yes the owner of the vehicles does NOT have to be the insured person - they need to see insurance relating to the vehicle with reg number and policy no  but are not concerned over the named drivers.

  8. No, because your insurance will have your car details on it, they will only tax the car if it has it's own insurance policy.

  9. Yes as long as the policy states the registration number.

You cannot tax it using another policy which covers you for other vehicles

isitme is correct. ( as he always is ) look at link before giving thumbs down.
