  1. When using bittorrent you would need to download a .torrent file.

Every .torrent file contains information about the file being shared, plus the address of the tracker. The sole job of the tracker is to pass around IP addresses of the seeders/leechers that, using the .torrent file, connect to the tracker. Then the seeders/leechers use each others' IP addresses to communicate directly. Ergo, anyone who has the .torrent file can get the IP list from the tracker. Your IP is out in the open and available from the tracker.

The MPAA/RIAA go after the tracker database and then using reverse IP identification, determine which ISP you are currently using.  They notify the ISP to release the personal information of the account holder using that IP during the time they recorded the infraction being committed and your served with notice to appear in court for civil proceedings.

So in short can you get caught - absolutely and at any time you scrape the tracker.

  2. Anything on teh internet is traceable

  3. Its ok to get , but not to give.

  4. Yes. Limewire is highly illegal and shouldn't be used. The government can trace stuff and sometimes even arrest you because it is illegal. Hope that helps! Lol.

  5. You should not be using those programs, but in a realsitic sense a lot of people do use them. And yes they are traceable and it is illegal, but they are looking more for the people who upload and sell. or provide all the time. But it is illegal and I wouldnt reccomend it.

  6. Yes, it is traceable.  My friend got sued by the recording industry for downloading with limewire.  She had to pay $16,000.

  7. Well, they can trace you. But honestly when you think about it, there are millions who use Limewire and there are very low chances they would trace you if they were going to trace somebody. Also, I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't get in a lot of trouble for downloading the songs, more for uploading them. Seriously, are they going to fine all the millions who use Limewire?
