Can I get in trouble for telling my therapist about my underage drinking?

Please no lectures about underage drinking, please just answer my question.

I am 16 and I just started therapy and one of the questions she asked me was "do you drink alcohol or use drugs?". I said no, but honestly I drink quite a bit and use marijuana. I was afraid to tell her though because I don't want my mom to find out. And honestly, I don't plan on stopping any time soon, as bad as that sounds(but I'm being honest!).

So should I tell her? And how do I tell her that I lied before?

  1. yeah, there should be a confidentiality contract...

  2. Well there should be doctor-patient confidentiality...

But she could pull a "24" moment and tell the media about it... Then your life would be SCREWED man!!

lol just don't listen to me...

  3. no you cannot get in trouble. everything you tell your therapist will remain confidental unless you've told her that you've been abused your that you will hurt somebody.

  4. i do not think you can get into trouble!

  5. Just come right out and say it, but first ask her about her confidentiality policies, and see if she will tell your mom or not. It is good though that you are wanting to admit it most people won't even do that. To tell her you lied before say you were nervous but now you feel more comfortable around her now, you're probably not the first who has done this anyways.
