I want to go to Medical School to become a psychiatrist. However, I am worried, because I am currently going to UOP for my BS in psychology, and I hear that to get into medical school, I need to get my undergrad from a more "prestigious" college.

can someone fill me in?

  1. University of Phoenix is accredited by the same organization that accredits University of Michigan, University of Arizona, and hundreds more. They are legitimate. Many people that put down UoP are usually traditional student that think non-traditional means easy. In fact, I just graduated with a degree in Information Technology, and let me assure you, that my core classes were not easy, although I felt like I was teaching myself in many of my programming classes. I, too am looking into medical school. There are at least 4 classes that must be taken: Chemistry/Chemistry Lab; Organic Chemistry/Lab; Biology/Lab, and English. I have seen sites list Calculus and Statistics. I have none of these classes. Also, go to the aamc.org. This is like the governing body of medical schools. You will find some good information here. I have emailed a couple of medical schools and asked them if I was wasting my time pursuing a medical school application with a online college degree. Just ask around. My plan is to train for EMT, take the prerequisite courses and volunteer in a nursing home regularly and possibly in the hospital. I would like to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity at least a couple of times. I want to portray an image of someone who is connected and cares about his community, of which I do. Good luck.
