Question:

Can I get into Virginia Tech?

I have a 3.7 GPA, I've been in French club all four years of high school, I'm involved in two volunteer organizations, My SAT scores are 690 (Critical Reading), 590 (Math), 690 (Writing). I took 3 AP courses last year (my junior year) and I'm taking 4 this coming year (my senior year).

The only problem is my math classes. My junior year I took Math Analysis and this year I'm taking Discreet Math. I know this a weak spot on my transcript--Can I get into Tech?

(The reason I'm not taking a higher math this year is because following Math Analysis I have the choice of either AP Calculus or AP Stats--my school nixed the regular Calculus programs. I just cannot take AP math classes. My schedule is already very challenging next year, and I don't want to make myself miserable.)

  1. You look to be an ideal candidate for Virginia Tech especially if you are from Virginia.  The school has a strong reputation for engineering.

  2. You shouldn't have a problem, but why do you want to go to Virginia Tech?

If you want to be an engineer you should consider Georgia Tech, MIT, Clemson, Auburn, or Mercer University.

I am not trying to be ugly (but honest), VT doesn't have a very good reputation; I would not go there if I were you.

  3. Call them or go to their website and write the education office these questions..They are the people who can detail for you what you need.

  4. You should check Virginia Tech's website for their admissions qualifications.  This will give you a much better understanding of what you need to get into the university.  Your weakness in math should not be a hindrance into the school.  If you have any questions about the information that they provide on their site, contact the admissions office of the university and ask.  I know it's not exactly what you want to hear, but all universities are different.  At the school I attend, you would be a shoo-in.
