Can I get into the University of Michigan taking the ACT instead of the SAT?

I live in Michigan, and I'm a good student and do lots of extra-curriculars, so I'm not worried about that. But now I'm going to be a junior in high school and it's time for ACT/SAT prep, and I know the SAT is a lot harder and requires more preparation, so I was wondering if I can NOT take the SAT and just take the ACT and still get into U-M. It just seems that I can focus more on the ACT and do well on that rather than worrying about the SAT as well. Oh, and I want to go into health care if that helps at all.

  1. I don't know where you heard that the SAT is harder and requires more preparation.  Both tests are equally easy/difficult, and they're actually very similar.  I just wouldn't worry about it, take whatever is required for admission.  Plus, if you're a good student like you say, you shouldn't have any problem getting into a state university like U of M.

  2. According to this site, you can take either test.

Confirm this information with their Office of Admissions, however.  Best of luck to you!

  3. SAT and ACT preparation links:

While the SAT and ACT are very different tests, they both fulfill the same role in the admissions process. The SAT and ACT are designed to provide college admissions officers with two things: a predictor of first-year academic achievement in college, and a common yardstick to use in comparing students from a wide range of educational backgrounds.
