I live in NJ and I'm moving to Alabama. My fiance is in the US Army and I know when I marry him I'll be covered. We're getting married in September and I'm may be going on Medicaid in a few days. Can we still get married and will it be on my record forever?!?!?!

  1. I know that if you are on Medicaid and are planning to get married you have to give them a 2 weeks notification.  If you use Medicaid after you get married they told me that they would bill for all the medical expenses used even BEFORE marriage.

But they can't stop your marriage if they find out you are on Medicaid.

  2. it depends on how much you make and how many are im the household i know alot of women who get pregnant and get medicaid even though there husbands are im the military and they use tricare as a secondary insurance mostly because they dont like having a diffrent doctor at every apt

  3. yes and what record? its not like there is something that will follow you around that says was on medicaid for two months...but if you are getting married in sept why medicaid for that time frame..its alot of paperwork for such a short amount of time

  4. Once you are married, you will have to choose between medicaid and Tricare.  In all honesty Tricare is probably the best option since you know you will have coverage and services available, even if you move overseas.  Unless there is a clear reason, you may want to contact medicaid and stop the activation...you are probably less than a month away from being married, so it may be more work to start and then stop if later.  Contact your local office and speak with the rep...they can explain what you will need to do.

  5. You can still get married, I really doubt it'll be on your record forever.
