Can I get my eyes sized for colored contacts without getting an eye exam?

I want to get colored contacts but I dont have a vision problem but I do know that you have to get your eyes measured for contacts to get the right size... Can I just go to an eye doctor for that or will I have to get the full eye exam? Also, do you know if walmart does this? or about how much an eye doctor charges?

Also, do you know if the eye doctor sells colored contacts that dont have a vision prescription? you know, just the size.

thanks!

  1. You do have to have an eye exam. The cost varies depending on where you go and where you live. The walmart here in Seattle, charges around $95 for the basic exam plus fitting. There is a lot more than just size involved, we need to make sure your eyes are healthy and you don't have any problems with dry eyes and allergies. We also need to teach you how to put them in, take them out, clean them and take care of them, and for beginners, this is harder than you think.

They do make colored lenses with no prescription, and your doctor will let you try on the different colors so you can see how they look on your eye (which is always different than the model they show it on) and you can decide which color you want to buy. Your doctor will sell the lenses with no prescription. You may have vision insurance that will help pay for at least the routine part of the exam, even if you have no vision correction, because the health of your eye is very important, and even if you have no vision problems, you still should get your eyes checked. Check out your insurance and make an appointment to see your local optometrist!
