Can I get my retainers readjusted if my teeth have moved from not wearing them?

  1. Generally, new retainers have to be made to fit your teeth to their new position.  


  2. Depends on how much your teeth have moved. You may have to have braces again. If they are the solid plastic type of retainer that fits over the teeth and you can get them on they will move back in place if they haven't moved a great amount. I know that this happens as my son's retainer had one tooth more forward than it should be and it was no time before my son's tooth moved to fit the retainer. The orthodontist quickly made him a new one and the new one moved the tooth where it belonged.

    This will not work if your teeth have changed alot. Also we were told they had to wear their retainers at night forever. My son got his braces off in 2002 and still wears his nightly and his teeth haven't shifted at all.
