Question:

Can I get new glasses based on my old glasses without a new prescription?

I have a pair of glasses that is a few years old, perfect vision with them on but I hate the frame. I don't have the prescription and don't want to get a new one when I know these work. Can Lenscrafters or whoever match the lenses or just shave them down to the new frames (which is much smaller than my current pair)?

If so, anyone know how much they charge for that?

Thanks.

  1. Surely you can have your own lenses recut into a smaller frame without an exam.

The charge depends on the price of the frame, and what they charge for recutting...shop around.

What you are wanting isn't a problem in Canada either..like our friend below in Australia says.

  2. No dear,

if you haven't had an eye testing within the last 6 months, you will have to get a new prescription from ur eye doctor or ophthalmologist.. even though it may seem like the vision is perfect with the old glasses, u dont know what will be the changes of ur power from last years.in some cases its seen that u r happy with ur glasses but still ur power has increased in the other eye.since every human being has binocular vision so from both the eye u can see better.

plus if u have cylinderical power, then sometimes u cannt detect without the help of eye professionals.

    so better,u consult doctors.

I dont know from which part of the world u are.

In India its costs only $5-6.

  3. Nope - if you haven't had an eye eam within the last 6 months, you will have to get a new prescription. even though it may seem like the vision is perfect with the old glasses, you could still have changes to your eyes that a new prescription will help. An eye exan is usually around $60 depending on where you go.

  4. In Australia it is not a problem. I cannot speak for other countries.
